ElderCare Trust Fund


The ElderCare Trust Fund was created by the Legislature in 1992 and is administered by the Lieutenant Governor’s Office on Aging. "All monies received from a voluntary tax check-off contribution system must be used to award seed grants to public and private nonprofit agencies and organizations to establish and administer innovative programs and activities that assist older South Carolinians to live with dignity and vitality in their communities."

The ElderCare Trust Fund has funded over 25 grants, totaling more than $300,000. Programs previously funded by the ElderCare Trust fund include:

2006-2007

  • Capital Senior Center/“5 Points Wheels,” Columbia, SC - A transportation program that will serve seniors 60 and older and adults with physical disabilities living within the Five Points/Downtown area of Columbia who no longer drive.
  • The ARK/“The NOAH Project,” Summerville, SC – “Neighborhood Outreach Alzheimer’s Help” - An expansion of Alzheimer’s support services into small towns and rural areas that have little access to care resources.

2005-2006

  • Hopewell Senior Day Care Center/ “One Step Rural Initiative Program,” home repairs, indoor heating and plumbing, Williamsburg County
  • Vital Aging of Williamsburg County, Inc./”Group Dining for Out-of-County Clients,” Kingstree, SC

2004-2005

  • Senior Centers of Spartanburg County/ “Over the Counter and Prescription Drug Management Project,” Spartanburg, SC

ElderCare Trust Fund Advisory Board
The ElderCare Trust Advisory Board is made up of citizen leaders from across the state and meets quarterly in August, November, February and May. Board members serve an initial term of three (3) years, with one (1) year terms thereafter. Officers are eligible for re-election.

In addition to contributions received from the check-off on state taxes, contributions can be made directly to the Trust Fund by sending a check to:
